There’s little in the way of design that could hold a candle to a Zac Posen dress, but the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Ennis House, built in 1924, is not only the architectural jewel of Los Feliz, it’s a modern marvel of Mayan Revival architecture. And on Feb. 25, it was the site of a MAC Cosmetics-thrown lunch for Posen’s first collaboration with the beauty juggernaut — a red carpet-ready collection out in the nick of time for the ’round-the-clock parties in town this weekend.
Posen showed up in typical sartorial splendor, in a burgundy light fabric suit, a pale violet oxford shirt and purple tie. The welcoming committee of the afternoon sunny soiree was headed up by MAC global brand president Karen Buglisi Weiler with Demi Moore and Jacqui Getty.
Posen told the small crowd he’s been coming out here since his early ‘20s and the most fashionable ladies in town have always made him feel welcome. Moore even hooked him up with manager Jason Weinberg, who tends to clients like the Blind actress and Naomi Watts and is now representing Posen for TV and other projects. (He’s been a judge on Project Runway for a few seasons now.)
There were a lot of sunny floral chiffons floating through the rooms, but Dita Von Teese turned up in a black strapless ‘50s fit ‘n’ flare Dior-style dress with a bit of cleavage, and her hair in a chignon paired with a bright fuchsia lipstick. “I thought the cleavage might be a little much for day,” she laughed. “But if not at this party — where?”

Producer/manager Hilary Shor came in her spring-best Pucci print dress, and Lisa Eisner was also bedecked in color and print. Moore donned a black crop top and soft A-line midi skirt, wearing very little makeup and oversized black-framed glasses. Her dates for the afternoon were her daughters, Rumer and Scout Willis.
Meanwhile, the 10,000-square-foot home is based on Mayan stone and has gone through considerable renovation and now hitting the last phase of cleaning up the exterior stones. It’s been owned since 2011 by Ron Burkle, who doesn’t live there but it sure isn’t bad as a possible weekend house/event estate. It had been put up for sale in the early 2000s for $12 million, but Burkle snatched it up in 2011 for a mere $4.5 million. Considering its incredible vistas and large rooms with high ceilings, it’s a steal and even had Angelenos who’ve seen and done it all — including attendees Selma Blair, Jason Weinberg, Eric Buterbaugh, Liz Goldwyn and former Angeleno Gina Gershon visiting from NY — oohing and ahhing over the house. And they were pretty into grabbing the makeup colors as well.
The Zac Posen x MAC Cosmetics collection, priced from $18 to $54, is now available online.
